    The Modern Media:

In this session, we explain the role of the modern media in the contemporary digital environment. We cover: how large organisations use social media for news gathering, how the media landscape has changed media organisations, and the changing dynamic of the relationship between your business and reporters. We also look at how to deal with questions from journalists, including: navigating challenging moments, different types of interviews, and how best to exploit your media opportunities. Finally, we look at the performance aspect of dealing with the media – how to channel your nerves, stay confident and deliver a focused and positive narrative.

    Techniques: Create the narrative

The focus is on ‘What to say’: we cover the theory of highly effective communication techniques to craft your strategic, audience focused story. You’ll learn: how to engage an audience and get your narrative to land, the difference between audience engagement and a media appearance.

    Interview Scenarios:

Our interview training focuses on the live issues that matter most to your business. We’ll research your story, allowing you to craft your narrative and plan for a positive interview.

    Exercise: live interview

Building on your interview scenarios, this practical module simulates an ‘on-air’ radio interview. You’ll be ‘broadcast’ and recorded for playback and analysis. We’ll listen back with a focus on performance and storytelling: were you able to stay on message and deliver to the audience, or did the presenter take control? We’ll support you in developing your skills with constructive, helpful, and inclusive feedback.

    Techniques: quotes and soundbites

Delivering a quote or soundbite is a critical skill when your audience isn’t listening live. We’ll focus on journalism insider skills, tips and techniques to craft the perfect quote or soundbite that gets your message across.

    Exercise: soundbite to camera

In this second practical module, you’ll deliver your soundbite to camera. You’ll learn techniques for TV appearances so your quote lands with confidence and authority.

    Playback and analysis

In this final feedback session, we’ll analyse your performance. How well were you able to deliver your vision in a short soundbite? We’ll make sure you have the skills needed to land a quote every time.

    Feedback and follow-up

At CoComms, our training is just the start of our relationship with your business. We’ll be happy to answer your questions and upload all training materials for you to review again. We’ll also send you bespoke training notes and provide full access to our ‘how-to’ videos. To book your bespoke training or polish your skills before an important interview, call us on 0121 312 3600.
